If so they should probably start stringing big banners outside their convention sites…White Men Welcome Inside…so we’re SURE to get the message.
Something to offend everybody…
I’m talking to you from my cabin in a papaya patch on the slopes of Haleakala volcano… I see a sliver of Pacific Ocean in the distance…A ringneck pheasant visits the field outside my window every afternoon…And I have no running water…no sink, no toilet…
I poop in a bucket…and when the sun comes out I grab a shovel and bury it under the guava trees behind my house, where fallen passion fruit litter the ground like huge yellow Easter eggs. Poop out, passion fruit in, ancient organic system. But that doesn’t matter. What DOES matter is…the Idea of the Week.
Every week, for fifty-two weeks, for fifteen minutes or so, I’ll discuss one idea. One idea that is NEVER discussed in American society.
Different ideas will offend different people at different times…
Tough shit. I don’t have to kiss anybody’s butt on this show. I’ve completely had it with wit and pleasantries and smarmy feminine manipulations. I utterly reject style without substance. I’m sick of watching gossipy female TV news anchors, chattering over video clips of men fighting fires, men fighting wars, men rappelling out of helicopters to pluck people off roofs …and even men throwing footballs. Blacks and women and Hispanics have become ever more successful in the past decades…and has the country moved to the Left? Have we become more Liberal? More compassionate?…Hell no. We’re more conservative and fearful than ever…They grabbed the ring of power and…just like Ronald Reagan…they morphed from the oppressed into the oppressors…and then led the charge into Afghanistan and Iraq. And then led the charge to become petty bureaucrats and corporate wonks and newspaper pundits. That’s progress? Sucking up to corporate power is OK if you are black or Hispanic or female? What a supertanker of delusion. What a betrayal of what Martin Luther King Junior and the Civil Rights movement were REALLY about.
After lying to us about mushroom clouds and weapons of mass destruction Condoleezza Rice and Colin Powel are hop scotching across the planet as our ambassadors for corporate colonialism. The Bush Adminsitration is exploiting their skin color to send a message to the poor nations…you TOO can have money and power if you get in line with the global corporate agenda. If they were white guys they would have been bundled off to grow cabbages in Alaska long ago. Either of them could have stopped the invasion of Iraq cold simply by talking truth, instead of cozying up to Bush and Cheney lies. What are they but the Bush Family house niggers? Manipulating poor people to cling to their privileged status. If I was black I’d be wretchedly ashamed of them. And the so-called Liberal Media glosses over their lies…why? Because of their skin color. Ladies and gentlemen, that’s REAL racism. Blacks don’t have a shot at true equality behind this patronizing attitude, disguised as affirmative action or reparations or some such nonsense. Equality means you have to be RESPONSIBLE for your actions, or else you DESERVE to be treated like a child.
And let’s not forget that the National Organization of Women supported the invasion of Afghanistan – the deaths of 10,000 people – so Afghani women wouldn’t have to wear burkas. What are these people thinking? How greedily and thoughtlessly they cling to their own little slice of the corporate pie.
We inhabit a fantasy – our institutions are movie sets built of smoke and mirrors – and that fantasy is going down…down, down, down. It’s time for Reality. Welcome to the Reality Cult. The REALITY Cult. We don’t have one more moment to waste deluding ourselves.
On some show I will ask the question: Are corporations vampires?…
Do they suck the life-blood out of our communities? Corporate Vampires. On another we will discover the differences between Liberals and Populists, and how Liberal social fantasies have sabotaged elections that should have been decided by hard economic realities…
Not women’s rights but worker’s rights. Not black or gay rights but people’s rights. The rights we should ALL be equally entitled to. On another I will ask: Should we tax stock market transactions?…
How come when I buy a pair of shoes for my kids I pay tax, but when someone buys $400,000 shares of stock they pay no tax?…On another I will ask, how come the rise of the feminist movement exactly parallels the decline of the union movement?…
Was feminism the biggest scab labor movement in history? Was feminism the social vehicle for selling out our society to the big corporations? On another we will talk about why we should nationalize our oil companies…or regulate them like we regulate our OTHER utilities companies…
We don’t allow corporations to operate our highways for profit…why allow them to profit from the fuel it takes to DRIVE on them? On another I will ask: Are men the oppressors of women?…
Or are WOMEN the oppressors of men? Something to offend everybody.

It’s been five years since the World Trade Center was bombed and still the corporate-controlled media has not asked: WHY this happened? Why did the Arabs bomb us?…
They KNOW WHY it happened. But they don’t want to talk about that. Nor do they want to talk about WHY people all over the world cheered this event. Not just Arabs. People all over.
The real reason WHY it happened is this:… since the Soviet Union collapsed in 1989, unbeknownst to us regular working Americans, our corporations have been running around the globe stealing with both hands. Unopposed by any other power. Paying off politicians and princes. Grabbing oil and copper and even water rights. Ripping up the entire planet in the name of profit. The theory being that we won the Cold War, therefore we are right about everything, and therefore we can do whatever we want, anywhere we want to…
But that’s not how billions of other people see it. BILLIONS of people are pissed off about how our corporations, with the backing of our military, have been commandeering their resources…Their livelihoods…But our corporate media doesn’t tell us that. Even NPR and the so-called Liberal media …with the exception of SOME of the shows on Air America…shy away from this explosive topic.
What DOES our corporate media tell us? They tell us 911 was perpetrated by Islamic Madmen. Crazed muslims.
OK. Fine. Good First Sentence.
But what the HELL were these madmen MAD about? Were they mad because our corporations are stealing their oil and copper and water? Were they mad because our corporations are bribing their rulers and stealing the ground from under their feet, and the water from the sky, and leaving them nothing? Were they mad because the U.S. government GAVE Saddam the very same nerve gas he used to “gas his own people?” Is this the real reason why Rumsfeld and Cheney KNEW Saddam had chemical weapons, because they GAVE them to him – never expecting him to destroy them, as they surely wouldn’t have done. Were they mad because our CIA overthrew the democratically elected leader of Iran and installed a Shah, a KING, who would be friendly to U.S. oil companies?…
And then…when Iran kicked out our puppet king, we were told it was because the Iranians hate freedom…Iranians hate freedom…That’s like saying fish hate water…They HAD democracy, they HAD freedom, and we wrecked it…then they grabbed it back…But we were told Iranians hate freedom. YUCK! [guttural bleat. Donkey sound]
Billions of people are mad at us, and we don’t know it because our media doesn’t tell us. We NEED to know. We need to know WHY they’re mad. We got bombed and we need to find out why.
And what does the president tell us? They hate freedom. They want to attack our way of life…They don’t give a flying fuck about our way of life. They don’t CARE what we do in Cincinnati and Chicago. They don’t care what we do IN this country. They don’t want to take anything away from us that is actually ours. They want to STOP us from taking things away from THEM that are actually THEIRS!
That’s why we got bombed. And the way to avoid getting bombed again – and dragged into more insane wars – is to talk about Ideas. Ideas about why it happened. Ideas about how we relate to the rest of the world. Ideas about what we’re doing, and how we can do it better. Fairer, stronger, better. Ideas. Not soundbites. Ideas. Not issues. Ideas.
And the idea we need to pursue right now is: wouldn’t we get more respect and cooperation from the rest of the world if we gave them food, not bombs…
Medicines, water purification technology, grains…Wouldn’t we?
When we shoot off one cruise missile we get a million dollar hole in the ground. That does nobody any good except the defense contractors who build them. The same defense contractors who give huge amounts of money to politicians in the form of campaign contributions. Legalized bribery… They’re paying off politicians with our tax money so they can get their hands on MORE of our tax money.
But when we dispense a million dollars worth of food or medicine we make thousands of people happy…This is not rocket science. THEY, the local people, thereby become our protectors against terrorist extremists. They, the local people, will refuse to aid and harbor terrorists who are fighting a nation that is giving them something valuable. Something they need. Food, water, medicine…
Which is EXACTLY what is NOT happening in Iraq. The people have turned against us because we have impoverished their lives. Wrecked their water and electricity. Why? For the sake of making our military contract corporations rich beyond belief…
These corporations don’t operate in a FREE market. They’d wither and die in a FREE market. They’re vampires…corporate vampires…that suck off the federal treasury. That suck off our tax dollars.

Military contract corporations are THIEVES.
What Eisenhower warned us about has come to pass. Our defense industry has gained WAY too much influence on how the resources of this country are spent. The USA spends as much on its military as the entire rest of the world combined. The entire rest of the world combined! And the big bad bear, the Soviet Union, is gone! So what are we afraid of? We, the taxpayers, pay to maintain U.S. military bases in 130 of the 190 countries on earth! And who benefits from this?
Our corporations. Not us. We’re taxed to pay for it…
Our corporations are shipping our jobs overseas…claiming to be international companies that owe allegiance to no one nation. But they still want our fighting men deployed around the globe to protect their predations.

Whether Republican or Democrat, we have to kick these militarist bastards out of Washington. We cannot survive as a nation if we don’t. Like Rome, we will collapse. Implode from within, because of our bloated and unprecedented military appetite.

This is the show that talks about IDEAS, not issues. Ideas are what propel our society forward. Issues pop in and out of the news like…popcorn.
Mass media does NOT report on ideas. TV, radio, newspapers report on issues. Only on issues. Never on ideas. Guess what. I don’t care what the president said today. I don’t’ care what some jagoff in congress said today. They’re politicians. They’ll turn around and say the exact opposite next week. And they probably won’t act on ANY of the things they talk about. They’re just testing the political winds with their words.
Reporting on what politicians say is reporting on the cheap. Cut rate news reporting. Junk in, junk out. Our so-called big media outlets station one guy at congress and one woman at the White House, and their job, each day, is to get some quote from some administration asshole. Who gives a fuck? Our media is worthless. The United States is number twenty-three on a list that ranks countries according to their freedom of the press. Twenty-three! Twenty-two other countries have more open and thorough news reporting than we do! OUR media is controlled by corporations.
I’ve lived in 25 countries: India, Australia, Tonga, Thailand, Peru, Mexico, France, Germany, England…and many others. And this much I can tell you. I can pick up any newspaper any day of the week in any of those countries and find out more about what’s happening in the United States than I can by reading or watching any of the so-called news outlets INSIDE this country. Why?
Because foreign papers employ real reporters who dig up real stories and place them within a context. A context of…you guessed it…ideas. A context of ideas. Not only do I find out what happened. I find out WHY it happened. I am presented the facts within a historical context. Why things like this happened before…and what it meant then…And what it might mean now. Ideas.
I will discuss the Idea of the Week for 15 minutes a week for 52 weeks. That’s it. That’s all she wrote. I only have five lives to give for my country and I’ve already given four.
I guarantee you that after exposing yourself to one Idea of the Week for 52 weeks, you will possess some valuable new tools for how to shape your life and make good decisions. Informed decisions. You will know much more about what’s going on, and WHY it’s going on, and how to steer your life accordingly. You will not sign up for useless wars to make rich people richer. You will not divorce your husband because he is not meeting your needs – or he has no relationship skills. You will be appalled at what your kids are learning…and NOT learning…in school.
What do I get out of this?
No…I don’t want a job in radio. Fuck radio. A bunch of ignorant anuses who know nothing and have nothing to say, trying to be charming and witty for an hour. Giving us their OPINIONS about things. No thanks. Fuck them. You have to EARN the right to have an opinion in this world. You have to study and DO something and KNOW something. This is not a show about opinions. That’s feminized crap. This is a show about ideas. To have an idea you need to think. To have an opinion you need do nothing beyond open your mouth. That’s what the problem is. Everybody has opinions but nobody has ideas. Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one.
And no, I don’t want a flush toilet. This is not my cabin anyway, and the passion fruit would just rot on the ground from neglect.
